LYDIA CHEN

LYDIA CHEN
PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Lydia Chen is the President and Chief Executive Officer of InnVest Hotels and a member of its Board of Directors. She assumed the role on April 1, 2017. Prior to assuming her role at InnVest Hotels, Ms. Chen was CEO of the parent company Bluesky Hotels and Resorts.

As CEO, Lydia is committed to developing InnVest Hotels’ asset portfolio, and pursing quality asset growth opportunities across Canada.

Lydia has more than 20 years of experience in senior management positions with several Fortune 500 companies in Asia, Europe and North America. Ms. Chen has been involved in a wide variety of industries including finance, real estate, biopharmaceuticals, and technology. Ms. Chen was born in China and holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree in management. Lydia Chen also serves on the Board of Directors of Choice Hotels Canada.

George Kosziwka was named Chief Financial Officer of InnVest in December 2012, having previously served as Vice President Finance since InnVest’s inception in 2002. Mr. Kosziwka has substantial hospitality real estate experience having worked over 25 years in the industry. Prior to joining InnVest he held senior finance executive positions for predecessors of the REIT, including UniHost Corporation and Journey’s End Corporation. Mr. Kosziwka is also currently a director of Choice Canada. Mr. Kosziwka holds an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant.

Executive Vice-President & General Counsel

Lisa Conway was named Executive Vice-President and General Counsel in August 2015. Ms. Conway has significant capital markets experience with senior level positions at HSBC, Toronto Stock Exchange, Macquarie, Citibank and BlackRock in addition to international experience in London and Singapore. Early in her career, she also worked with Journey’s End Corporation. Prior to joining InnVest, Ms. Conway led the Royal Bank of Scotland’s (RBS) business as their CEO for Canada and was Chair of the Board of RBS Capital Markets Canada. She was also General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer responsible for all regulatory and compliance matters. Ms. Conway is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where she obtained both a BA(Hons) and her LLB.

Jeff Hyslop

Senior Vice President, Asset Management

Jeff Hyslop was named Senior Vice President of Asset Management in January 2018. Mr. Hyslop leads the Asset Management team, which is focused on maximizing performance and value of InnVest’s portfolio of hotels. Mr. Hyslop has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry including 12 years in progressive Asset Management roles. Prior to joining InnVest he held senior roles at Pomeroy Lodging, Westmont Hospitality, Legacy Hotel REIT and PKF Consulting. Mr. Hyslop started his career in the hospitality industry in many front line positions at hotels in Toronto, Vancouver and New Brunswick. Mr. Hyslop received his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Guelph’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and has a Certificate in Urban Land Economics from the Sauder School of Business at UBC.

Matthew Cornell

Vice President, Investments

Matthew (“Matt”) Cornell was named Vice President of Investments in February 2016. Mr. Cornell is responsible for heading all transaction activity for InnVest Hotels. In addition, Mr. Cornell will play a key role in defining InnVest’s long term portfolio composition strategy. Previously as Vice President, Asset Management and Strategy, Mr. Cornell provided strategy and analytical support to InnVest’s hotel portfolio across luxury, full-service, mid-scale and limited service properties, while leading a team responsible for the mid-scale and limited service assets. With nearly 10 years of broad based hotel industry and financial experience Mr. Cornell joined InnVest from GE Capital Real Estate where he oversaw a lending book of $800M of commercial real estate including hotels and storage facilities. Prior to GE Capital Real Estate, Mr. Cornell was a Director of Asset Management for Delta Hotels and a Consultant with the hotel consultancy and advisory firm, PKF. Mr. Cornell graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Hospitality and has a Certificate in Real Property Valuation from UBC’s Sauder School of Business.

Vice President, Asset Management - Capital Projects

Leo Fleming was named Vice President of Asset Management – Capital Projects of InnVest in April 2015, having previously served both as Director and Manager Asset Management since InnVest’s inception in 2002.

Leo has substantial hospitality real estate experience having worked over 25 years in the industry with experience in Renovations, Asset Management, Acquisitions and Finance. Prior to joining InnVest, Leo held progressively senior positions with predecessors of InnVest Hotels including InnVest REIT, UniHost Corporation and Journey’s End Corporation. Mr. Fleming is also a past director of Choice Canada.

Leo graduated with a diploma in Business & Marketing from Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario.

Nicholas Lakas

Nicholas Lakas
Vice President, Asset Management

As Vice President – Asset Management at InnVest Hotel, Nicholas overseas a portfolio of 14-hotels in the midscale, full service and luxury categories. He has an appetite to create and re-invent unique brand experiences for travellers that deliver above market returns for ownership.

Over the last 15+ years, Nicholas has been honing this belief in the hospitality sector with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Caesars Entertainment where he led the creation of the sustainability trailblazing Element Hotels in the extended stay segment. Nicholas also stewarded the development of one of the fastest growing brands in the history of the hospitality industry – Aloft Hotels. Nicholas started his career as an investment banker with Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse focused on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions in the technology sector.

Nicholas currently lives in Toronto with his wife and two young children. He is a graduate from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

Chantal Napper

Chantal Nappert has 20 years of finance experience covering areas including accounting, asset management, acquisitions, corporate governance, investor relations and capital markets. Ms. Nappert is currently Vice President of Finance with InnVest Hotels LP. Ms. Nappert has worked in the hospitality industry for over 15 years with prior roles at Westmont Hospitality Group, Legacy Hotels REIT and Fairmont Hotels. She earned an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Ottawa and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA). Ms. Nappert currently sits on the board of Choice Hotels Canada and the Toronto Standard Condo Corporation 2267 (St. Regis Toronto).

Brad Pollock

Vice President, Taxation and Treasury

Brad Pollock was named Vice President Taxation and Treasury of InnVest in January 2013.  Previously, Mr. Pollock shared his time as Vice President Taxation of InnVest and Westmont Hospitality Group where he was involved with private equity hotel funds with such partners as Goldman Sachs, Ivanhoe Cambridge, The Baupost Group and Kimco Realty.  

Brad has over 20 years of experience in real estate transactions including corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and cross-border transactions.  He holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Western Ontario and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
